After a successful first edition, El Gouna Film Festival is pleased to announce that submissions are open as of April, 24 for feature narrative and feature documentary film projects in development as well as films in post-production for the second edition of the festival’s CineGouna Springboard with the deadline for submission set to be July 22, 2018.

Cairo, Egypt; March, 2017 – Kicking off its activities ahead of El Gouna Film Festival’s second edition which is set to take place from the 20th – 28th of September 2018, CineGouna Platform gave out an award at Beirut Cinema Platform (BCP) to Dead Dog by Sarah Francis, guaranteeing the film to be automatically selected as part of CineGouna Springboard’s official selection.

Cairo, Egypt; February, 2017 – The Founding and Executive committee of El Gouna Film Festival announces the dates of the second edition of El Gouna Film Festival is set to take place from the 20 th – 28 th of September 2018, in Egypt’s blissful resort by the Red Sea, El Gouna. El Gouna, Egypt – 28 September 2017: El Gouna Film Festival announced the winners of CineGouna Platform Awads which was held alongside the festival activities. Egyptian film critic Safaa Al-Lithy initiated the ceremony by presenting the “Samir Farid” Award, by the Egyptian Crutucs Society which went to the film “Scary Mother” by Ana Urushadze.

El Gouna, 28th September, 2017- Renowned global Artist Forest Whitaker and Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris announced at a press conference held on the sidelines of El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) their commitment to join forces in war-torn South Sudan to empower young women and men as catalysts of peace and development in their communities. To this effect, Mr. Naguib Sawiris is entering a partnership with the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (WPDI), a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 2012 by Forest Whitaker to harness the potential of vulnerable youth for peace through mediation, non-violence, reconciliation and entrepreneurship in fragile contexts. Mr. Sawiris has pledged support to the activities of the WPDI in South Sudan.

El Gouna, September 18, 2017 — El Gouna Film Festival has announced that it will bestow its Career Achievement Award on prominent Lebanese film critic Ibrahim Al-Aris, in recognition for his major contributions to the field of film criticism in the region. Al-Aris will receive his award on the opening night of the festival’s first edition that will take place between the 22 nd and the 29 th of September, 2017. It’s expected that a stellar group of leading Arab and international film figures will be in attendance.
