Maha Haj is a filmmaker with a background in English and Arabic literature. She has worked as a set designer on notable films like The Attack (2012) and The Time That Remains (2009). Her directorial debut was Oranges (2009), followed by the documentary Behind These Walls (2010). Her feature film Personal Affairs (2016) was selected for Cannes’ Un Certain Regard. Her film, Mediterranean Fever (2022), also premiered at Cannes and won Best Screenplay.
