About the film

This gripping documentary revolves around the controversial political career of Imelda Marcos, the former first lady of the Philippines. Marcos’ behind-the-scenes influence on her husband Ferdinand's presidency introduced her to the global political stage, before she was forced to leave the country in 1986. The Kingmaker presents an attempt at infiltrating Imelda Marcos’ psyche—now, back from exile—as the former first lady invests in reclaiming her family’s position. The film was screened at the Venice Film Festival, as well as the Toronto International Film Festival.
