About the film

Jacek loves heavy metal, his girlfriend and his dog. His family, his small hometown and his fellow parishioners all see him as an amusing freak. Jacek works at the construction site of what is supposed to become the tallest statue of Jesus in the world. When a severe accident disfigures him completely, all eyes turn to him as he undergoes the first facial transplant in the country.

Born in Krakow on February 26, 1973, a graduate of the Film School in Łódź, Małgorzata Szumowska is a director, screenwriter and producer, one of the most interesting contemporary Polish filmmakers.Sheis also one of the most recognizable Polish directors onthe internationalscene.Laureate of many prestigious awards: during her studies, her workswere screened in Cannes and won prizes all over the world.Her feature film debut “Happy Man” and her second film”Stranger” were nominated for the European Film Award in the “Discovery of the Year” category.In 2008 she won the Silver Leopard at the International Film Festival in Locarno for the film “33 Scenes from Life” starringJulia Jentsch.In 2009she worked as a co-producer of the film ” Antichrist” by Lars von Trier.In 2011, she made the film “Elles” with JulietteBinoche, which wasdistributed in 45 countries around the world. Itwas shown duringmanyfestivals including Berlin and Toronto. In 2013, Szumowska touched upon a very important and difficult topic -homosexuality among priests.For the film “In the Name of …” she won the Teddy prize for the best feature film at the63rd International Film Festival in Berlin.The film was screened at many festivals around the world, and in the cinemas of25 countries.In 2015 she directed, “Body”, for which she received the Silver Bear asbest director at the 65th International Film Festival in Berlin and thus sealed herstrong position in European cinematography.In 2016, she also received the European Film Award for this film.Małgorzata Szumowska was invited to take part in the International Film Festival in Berlin as a member of the jury of the 66th edition of the Festival.The film “Mug” is her seventh full-length feature film.The film premiered in the main competition of the 68th International Film Festival in Berlin.
