More About Film
Set in late-1990s Prishtina during the escalating ethnic tensions of a "war before the war," thirteen-year-old Dua navigates puberty, community upheaval, and a parallel underground education system. After an incident shakes her community and she becomes a target of rising violence, Dua bonds with a fearless girl named Maki, discovering unexpected resistance as the threat of exile closes in. Drawing on personal memories of growing up amidst protests, displacement, and the looming threat of war, writer-director Blerta Basholli and co-writer Nicole Borgeat ground this complex historical backdrop entirely through Dua’s intimate, resilient personal journey.
