Following the participation of his project in development, Hamlet from the Slums, in the 4th edition of CineGouna SpringBoard, where he was awarded a sponsorship by IEFTA to take part in one of its partner development labs or workshops; producer Ahmed Amer has been invited, among 74 producers from 40 countries, to join the 2021 Rotterdam Lab.

A IEFTA partner, the Rotterdam Lab is a training workshop for promising emerging producers from all over the world, with the aim to provide them with the means to build and develop an international network.

Hamlet from the Slums tells the story of eighteen-year-old Ahmed, who lives in a Cairo slum under the threat of brutal urban renewal. Following his father’s mysterious death, Ahmed has to quickly ‘become a man’ to take his father’s place, conforming to his community’s power structure. After the ghost of his late father demands revenge for his alleged assassination, Ahmed embarks on a journey to avenge his father and discover who he wants to become.

It is also worth noting that Hamlet from the Slums received other awards and grants during the 4th edition of GFF including; $20,000 from Shahid, $10,000 from Sparkle Media Services, the Film Independent and U.S. Embassy Virtual Residency award and the Khaled Bichara Award for Egyptian Independent Filmmakers.
