The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the final list of nominations for the 94th Academy Awards, naming two of GFF’s 5th edition films among the official nominees, adding another accolade to their long list of recognitions in the awards season.

Flee by Jonas Poher Rasmussen scored three nominations for Best Animated Feature Film, Best  Documentary Feature and Best International Feature Film category, representing Denmark. The film tells the story of Amin, a successful academic, grappling with a secret he has hidden for 20 years. Flee is unbound by documentary constraints and is swept up in an astonishing array of archival footage and ’80s pop music. It brings audiences directly into the experience of a teen fleeing multiple countries, and the psychological impact of this experience on how he loves, trusts, and understands his identity.

Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World represents Norway in the Best International Feature Film category. The movie follows Julie, who is turning thirty and her life is an existential mess. One night, she gatecrashes a party and meets the young and charming Eivind. She breaks up with her boyfriend Aksel and throws herself into yet another new relationship, hoping for a new perspective on her life, only to realize that some life choices are already behind her. The official award ceremony of the 94th Academy Awards is scheduled to take place on March 27, 2022.
