About the Film

Another Day of Life is the gripping story of a three-month-long trip that renowned Polish reporter Ryszard Kapuściński took across Angola ravaged by a war in which the front lines shifted like a kaleidoscope.

In a mélange of animation and non-fiction, the poignant story of Polish war reporter and teacher Ryszard Kapuściński (passed away in 2007) retells the degradation of Angola just after the Portuguese Carnation Revolution in 1974, and the long civil war for independence between 1975-76. This haunting film experience, based on Kapuściński’s eponymous book, is led by his irresistible impulse to tell the truth of Luanda, by then a capital ravaged by chaos, political interests and violence. In a way, he went as a reporter and came back as a writer.

The film weighs down the relevance of some protagonists in a conflict that quickly overcomes the national borders and reaches an international dimension where the C.I.A., South African Army and Cuban freedom fighters play a key role. However, the audience will experience a sense of compassion and respect for the human spirit, specially led by the efforts of Farrusco, a rogue Portuguese special forces operative that was serving in MPLA’s - the liberation military movement - at the time; and Carlota, a fierce guerrilla fighter, underlining the credible real life characters in a reflection upon the conflict of four decades ago.

The clever combination of animation, documentary and special effects succeeds in depicting a much clearer vision of Kapuściński’s memory, where the joyful moments with friends are intertwined with nightmares of death and destruction.
