More About Film
Set in western Georgia after the Soviet collapse, Guria follows a hazelnut farmer navigating power cuts, poverty, and everyday struggles while searching for love. Director Levan Koguashvili draws from his own memories of a turbulent era to show how hardship meets warmth and resilience. As the director notes, "Guria is my attempt to capture that unique period, where friendship, love, music, and humour existed alongside hardship." Shot in black and white with traditional folk singing performed without instrumental accompaniement, the honest acting builds an authentic atmosphere of hope during difficult times.
