Victor Kossakovsky began his filmmaking career in 1978 at the Leningrad DocumentaryFilm Studio (now Saint Petersburg), working as an assistant cinematographer, assistantdirector and editor. In 1988, he graduated from the Higher Courses for Screenwriters andDirectors in Moscow.His first feature, Belovy (1992), won both the VPRO Joris Ivens Award and the AudienceAward at IDFA in 1993.His subsequent films include Wednesday 19.07.1961 (1997), Pavel and Lyalya (1999), ILoved You… (2001), Hush! (2003), ¡Vivan Las Antipodas! (2011), Demonstration(2013), Aquarela (2018), Gunda (2020), Architecton (2024) and Trillion (2025).Kossakovsky’s films have received more than 100 international awards and have beenpresented at festivals around the world, including the Venice International Film Festival,the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlinale, where Architecton premiered inCompetition in 2024.Hush!, ¡Vivan Las Antipodas! and Gunda were nominated for Best Documentary at theEuropean Film Awards, while Aquarela and Gunda were shortlisted for the AcademyAward® for Best Documentary Feature.
