Kira Kovalenko was born in Nalchik, Russia. She graduated from Alexander Sokurov’sdirecting workshop at Kabardino-Balkarian State University in 2015. Her directorial debut Sofichka premiered at the 2016 Tallinn International Film Festival. Unclenching the Fists is her second feature film.
