About the Film

Fellini's first film as a solo director, The White Sheik (1952), is set in Italy, where Wanda and Ivan Cavalli are small-town newlyweds who choose the magical city of Rome to spend their honeymoon. While the responsible Ivan wants to perform his family and church duties, Wanda is only interested in getting to meet her favorite photo-strip star known as "The White Sheik." As she impetuously sneaks away to find The Sheik, disconsolate Ivan tries to keep up appearances with the rest of their family members.
