Director Ilaria Borrelli is an award winning writer, director, and actress. She started her artistic career as an actress but later shifted her focus to filmmaking. Her film A Girl from the Brothel is a notable milestone in her professional journey, winning the Best Film award at the Miami International Women Film Festival and the Los Angeles International Women's Film Festival, in addition to touring a number of international film festivals such as the Madrid International Film Festival and the Victoria Film Festival. Her projects have received acclaim from the United Nations and support from UNICEF.

About the Film

Through a fusion of several cinematic genres, director/screenwriter Ilaria Borrelli embarks on a dramatic and artistic journey fraught with risks, to portray the suffering of a child prematurely matured by a harsh and indifferent society.

We are standing before a coming-of age film; a cinematic choice that has become a genre in recent years, as more and more filmmakers around the world have turned to it.

However, this is not a traditional one, as it does not focus on the issues of adolescence like others do. Instead, it follows the story of a young girl who was deprived of her adolescence.Her life was “shortened” in a disturbing manner by those who wanted her to be a “woman” who goes through what she cannot endure, while she is supposed to continue her studies and "play" like any child of her age.

It's a road movie, where we follow the journey of a young girl who escapes from her harsh reality in search of her father/hope/salvation, acc ompanied by her companion / friend / guardian spirit in a vast ruthless desert.

Borrelli skillfully conveys the film's themes through effective cinematography by David Vlasits, who was able to create stunning visuals despite the challenges of shooting entirely on location. The director uses mythology, fantasy, and magic to spark a dreamlike atmosphere that fits the setting that involves a 12-year-old girl.

The efforts made by this amazing international team comes seamlessly along with the mix of cinematic genres of the film under the helm of the director and in collaboration with the high-end international production entities.
