About the Film

An ambitious young graduate, Sinan, is passionate about literature and has always dreamed of becoming a writer and publishing his own book. After returning to his hometown with a diploma but no job; he pours his heart and soul into trying to collect the money he needs to publish his debut novel, a memoir about life in his village, but his father’s debts catch up with him.

Nuri Belgi Ceylan

After graduating from Bosphorus University with a major in engineering, Nuri Bilge Ceylan studied filmmaking at Mimar Sinan University, Istanbul. His first full-length film Kasaba / Small Town (1997) and his second, Mayis Sikintisi / Clouds of May (1999), received many national and international awards. With Uzak / Distant (2002), a poem of solitude featuring inspirations from Michelangelo Antonioni and Tarkovsky, won the Grand Prix and the Best Actor awards at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. All of his subsequent films also received numerous prestigious prizes at Cannes.
